Founded in the second year of the third millenium, Allegheny Railcar & Equipment, Inc.'s head offices are located in Verona, Pennsylvania, approximately nine miles upriver from the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.   The headquarters area is served by the Allegheny Valley Railroad, while Pittsburgh itself is served primarily by Norfolk Southern and AMTRAK, all operating over former Pennsy lines.

Our primary business is the leasing of railcars to the secondary passenger rail transport market, e.g., charters, tours, excursions, etc.   Our equipment comes from a variety of sources, but all receive detailed inspections and necessary repairs, as well as being refurbished and "fluffed", prior to being placed into the lease pool.   Running repairs and light maintenance are generally performed by AREI personnel, while heavy repairs are outsourced.  The lease pool is primarily based out of the mid-West (Chicago and St. Louis areas) for better connections to our market.

As an adjunct to our lease business, Allegheny Railcar & Equipment, Inc. also engages in the purchase and re-sale of railcars or railcar-related equipment.   Cars listed on our website may be owned by AREI, or may be courtesy cross-listings for our associates. However, we are NOT brokers.
